Our Capitol Story

The original Capitol Cinema

  • Opened 3rd October 1929 by an independant operator

  • Bought by JJB Sports in 1978 converted to Gym and Squash

  • Sold to St Helens YMCA who ran it as "Y Squash" for many years

  • Leased to Central Fitness around 2009 who vacated after 2 years

  • Membership buy out in 2013 to run the Club as a Members Cooperative

We believe a great Club is more than just what happens on Court. It`s about people, community, friendships and a shared passion for the game.

At Capitol, we`re proud to be a genuine Members` club. No Shareholders or Corporate hierarchy, no outside interests calling the shots. Just a welcoming inclusive community where Members come first, everyone has a place and our love of Squash & Racketball brings us together.

Our ethos has never changed since 2013 ...

  •  Collect members subscriptions

  • Pay the bills

  • Improve the facilities

  • Actively support Junior Squash for the future

Come for the Squash. Stay for the Community. Be part of Capitol
